Japan - Tokyo to Kyoto from Haneda Airport

I'm landing around 2pm on a Saturday in Haneda. I want to jet to Kyoto.

Research says I should take Haneda to Shinagawa Station (Keikyu-Kuko Line) 15 -20 Minutes.

Does this sound right?

Then its recommended to by a JR Rail pass (In the USA) and take the Shinkkansen to Kyoto. So should it seems i shouldnt try to book a train a head of time as flight may be delayed. I used http://www.hyperdia.com/ and it seems there is plenty of trains to Kyoto that day.

What do you think?

Yep,

I often have to stay in Shinagawa for work and that's the easiest route from Haneda.

From Shinagawa to Kyoto, your information is correct. There are plenty of trains throughout the day and you can just purchase a ticket of the next available train once you land.

We have a wonderful 8 days in Japan prior to our cruise out of Yokohama that also stopped at 5 Japanese ports.

We love Japan and its people. Japan is one of the cleanest places in the World and its people are among the most helpful and polite. The food is excellent and Japan is not as expensive as most people think.

Here is my detailed review of our travels in Japan as well as our cruise. It may help you with hotels and tours among other things.

Kyoto is fantastic. I suggest staying there at least two days. We took a tour of Kyoto and Nara for three days from Tokyo and it was great. I found the tour on Viator.

You can visit the many temples, palaces and shines on your own, but it is not easy. Taxis are not cheap and the key sights are spread out. I suggest joining a tour. Don't miss the Golden Pavilion. It is amazing.

Im planning 3-4 days in Kyoto. One or two of those days will be a Trip to Mt.Yosino and one to the whiskey (Suntory or Yamazaki)
