Hello All. In searching for car rentals from Jackson airport, I noticed the more inexpensive rates are from rental companies in the town of Jackson vs the airport locations. For those of you who have had to take the shuttle down to Jackson to pick up a car to drive to Yellowstone, was the drive, time and service worth the savings?
Sorry to be dense, but Jackson in what state? My first thought was Jackson, Mississippi because it is the closest Jackson to me. There is also a Jackson, Tennessee.
I believe we're talking about Jackson, Wyoming?
The airport is only 4-5 miles from the town, and the town, while more than a single
street, is not particularly hard to navigate.
But, what shuttle are you referring to? I don't think there's public transportation
nor a free shuttle to/from the airport. A taxi or private shuttle RT could eat up
most of the savings you gain from renting a car in town.
Jackson Hole Airport is seven miles north of Jackson and technically within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park. (The only commercial airport in the US that is inside a National Park.)
The airport has a webpage about all your transport options at the airport"

Are you sure there are 'in town' rental offices?
Are you looking at the correct "Jackson" ?
Since you mentioned "Yellowstone" I had no doubts about which "Jackson" you meant
Since your talking Yellowstone, you're referring to Jackson, WY. The airport is called Jackson Hole. Are you flying into Jackson Hole?
Thrifty and Dollar are about 15 minutes from the airport. They do offer a shuttle service. I suggest you contact the office directly to check frequency. And if you do rent off site, allow plenty of extra time to return your rental car and take the shuttle back to the airport.
Only you can decide if off-site rental is worth it since we don't know what rates you have been quoted.
