Is this a good area to stay in San Diego?

We are staying in January for five nights. We want to see Balboa Park, the beaches, the zoo, and basically all the main attractions in the area.

There were a number of good suggestions for areas to stay in the replies to your prior post.

Did you read them?

If they didn't appeal to you, I would suggest posting the list of places you are not interested in. Otherwise, folks will continue to spend time recommending sights that you do not like.

We just stayed in South Park and liked it a lot. It is convenient to Balboa Park and freeways with lots of charming restaurants. North Park is similar but busier, with more restaurants and bars. For example, we went to the grocery and a wine store in North Park because there are more services. It would depend on which you prefer.

I recommend watching the sunset at Sunset Cliffs and the tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument in addition to the main attractions.

South Park and North Park are both great neighborhoods to be in. As Barb said, South Park is more residential with North Park having more cafes, shops and services, particularly on 30th Street.

As someone who grew up in San Diego and still visits a few times a year, I can say that you will absolutely be much happier in North Park than Spring Valley!!!

but none of the places looked appealing to me

What is your criteria for appealing? "Price?" as that would be the only reason to stay in Spring Valley and endure the commute each day to the main sites in SD

So assuming the Airbnb map is accurate, you’re a bit more than a mile east of the general Balboa Park area.

Compare to the Spring Valley area - Spring Valley is about 12 miles further east - away from everything you’re interested in.

So your new idea is much better. I don’t know that specific street - you can drive to the Balboa park and zoo area in just a few minutes. La Jolla beaches will take a good bit longer. You’ll need to get cross town to I-5 and then north. It’s about 16 miles and will take you 40 minutes in good traffic - longer at rush hour.

The airBnB in North park is in a better location to visit the main attractions. No mention of the specific street, so can't comment on the neigborhood.
