Iran Tour Operators

I'm looking for a 15 to 20 day tour to Iran for a solo 67 year old male. My interests are Persian architecture and 20th century history. Can anyone recommend a tour operator for a small group tour or a driver/guide for a solo tour?

Are there any sights off the general tourist route that I shouldn't miss? What guidebook do you recommend?

I'm thinking about early May or late June. Are these good times to visit? What other dates should I consider?

How do you handle obtaining cash in Iran if one is from the USA?

Is there anything else I should know for my first trip to this area?

You might have a look at this tour - https://www.gadventures.com/trips/iran-discover-persia/ARIR/ . I've never used them, but they seem to get good ratings.

For guidebooks these are probably your best bet - https://www.lonelyplanet.com/iran#guidebook

I doubt that you'll be able to obtain cash while in Iran, especially with a U.S. card. You might have to pack the cash you'll need with you.

It would be prudent to have a look at this - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/iran-travel-warning.html

According to this information from the State Department, you'll have to obtain your Visa for Iran at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C. - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/IranIslamicRepublicof.html

This is perhaps not the best time for U.S. citizens to visit Iran.

Look at this Kudu tour, late April-early May. I can strongly recommend them as a company, although I haven't been on that particular tour. Their groups are small and congenial. They will avise on visa, cash etc. Smoothest way to get there would be to travel from the US to link up with their recommended BA flight from Heathrow.
