We visited India in late March, early April. Temps were in the mid 90s. Humidity was high.

Not sure when the monsoon season is, but avoid that, as well as hot times.

You need to provide more info as to your destinations as India Is vast country. Northern India around Delhi Agra could be quite cold while southern India will still be warm.

The monsoons start in early June and run through around September.

As the poster above said, India is indeed a vast country. However, most of the country will be pleasant from November through late February (although this can obviously vary a few weeks either way). The brutally hot weather will start in March and carry on through May. The monsoon arrives some time in June and will go through mid-late August (if it's a good monsoon).

For reference, I spent all of February in western India a couple of years ago. It was 85 and sunny every single day, without exception. Mid 60s-low 70s at night.

If you're going on a tour, I imagine it's probably one of two itineraries: the usual northern tour, consisting of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, possibly Jaisalmer, possibly even Varanasi, or the southern tour, more focused on temples, and visiting Hyderabad, Bangalore perhaps.

I can say that the northern portion will be very comfortable until March. The south (I have not been), is known for being warmer and more humid.

If you can swing your dates a little bit and go in mid-October to November, you will be able to experience the major Hindu festivals and superb weather.

Also, be aware that 4 star hotels in India may not exactly be top-notch...India's scale for judging hotels blew past 5 stars years ago.

I spent over 3 weeks in India in Dec/Jan 2014.
Mumbai - quite warm, but pleasant
Delhi, Agra & Varanasi - quite cool, but still comfortable
Jaipur, Bikaner & Jaisalmer - cool nights but gorgeously warm days
Jodhpur & Udaipur - perfect

Overall, I found January perhaps a little cool in some places. From conversations with our fantastic guide and my Indian friends, I would consider November or February the ideal time to visit the popular tourist sites I've listed above.
