Hi everybody,
Can anyone recommend a hotel in Puerto Iguazu? Not looking for ultra cheap, so three or four star. We’re doing the trip independently. Is there easy taxi service from town to the falls and back?
We stayed at the Loi Suites and loved it. I'm not sure about the taxi service since we hired a guide for the day. They showed us all around the Argentina side and arranged a boat tour. I believe the ride to the falls was only about 10-15 minutes so I'm sure you can ask the hotel. Make sure to bring or buy bug repellant. I wore my raincoat zipped up and the sleeves cinched tight. My significant other was bitten by something and had a bad reaction a few days later. Better to be safe!
We were there summer of 2023 and stayed at Rincon Escondido. Great small hotel with a fantastic owner who gave us the lay of the land and how to visit the park and other useful info. He set us up with a taxi that dropped us and picked us up from the falls and also for trips around town. The hotel was about a 10 min walk to the center of town where the restaurants were. This was on the Argentinian side.
We stayed at the JL Burbon on the Brazilian side. This was a high rise 3 star hotel.
We were there in June and didn’t encounter any mosquitoes.
Last year I stayed at Samna Hotel by Nobile (https://sanmahotel.com.br/?lang=en). It is walking distance to the entrance for the Brazilian side of the falls. My experience there was outstanding. The included breakfast was excellent. Dinner at the hotel was great. I recommend reserving a large size room.
It only took two to three hours to visit the falls leisurely from the Brazilian side. The general view from the Brazilian side is more landscape and distant except for some very close falls. I went in the morning before my afternoon flight home.
If you have the time (roughly 6 to 8 hours) it is well worth it to visit the falls from the Argentina side. They are incredibly more beautiful and the experience is quite immersive - meaning you’re up really close above and below them. Everything is exceptionally safe. There are three trails to follow and each one gives you an amazingly different viewpoint. I highly recommend doing all three of them. I booked a private tour through the hotel concierge. It was ridiculously cheap and all inclusive except food. You will not be disappointed.
Edit - There are taxi drivers willing to take you to the Argentina side. Absolutely great people. No scams. However, using the private tour is best and well worth it.
I would recommend devoting 1 day to each side and not try to rush through it. Would also highly recommend taking the boat ride into the falls - do this on the argentine side as the cost I believe is cheaper. Paid on a credit card about $40 but with the crazy "blue dollar" rates in place, about half the cost got refunded and it only ended up costing around $19 per person. You will need to factor the time of the day if you choose to do this - we were there in July and the mornings were quite cold and definitely not suitable for getting wet. We had no issues booking a 2 PM ride when the sun was out but do plan accordingly if you intend to do this - highly recommend if you want the thrill.
Thanks for the replies. Some good information. I’ve decided on two nights there in order to see both sides thanks to you guys.
