Ideas of where to go end Jan beginning Feb?

Hi there,
Husband and I are looking for ideas of a place to visit for just over 2 weeks--domestic in North America or internationally. We're not beach people, or night-life-party people, but we do love to hike, explore nature, see animals. learn about other cultures, go to museums and UNESCO sites. Top of bucket list is Safaris in Africa and visiting Galapagos, but both are still above our budget. Just looking for some ideas...much appreciated. Thanks!

Come to San Diego! The weather is great year round. Our zoo is world class. Mexico is only 30 minutes away if you wish to make a day trip. There are many great hikes such as Torrey Pines or our local mountains.

Check out great safaris in Kenya and/or Tanzania with Good Earth Tours, we did a wonderful safari for four with private guide/driver in 2022 for about $4500 pp, flights not included.

If that is too much, consider visiting Peru, its wonderful. Check out PeruAgency.com tours.

The Galapagos is expensive, but wonderful.

Egypt is great in the Winter. Gate 1 Travel gave us a fantastic tour with two river cruises for 13 days, cost was about $3500 pp, flights not included.

If you’ve never been to New Mexico, I’d recommend going there. Fascinating state. Lots of hiking, hot springs, archaeological sites with ruins, Native American and Hispanic culture, museums, scenic areas, old churches whitewater rafting, birding, old mining villages, and tons of art (Georgia O’Keefe lived there). Santa Fe and Taos are highlights. I spent many trips driving through the state. Visited state parks and saw many fascinating ruins.
You could do a loop of the entire state & it would probably take 2 weeks.

Thank you to everyone for these excellent suggestions. We've decided to go to Morocco and are very excited. We will save all the ideas listed above, for later exploring.

Thank you!!!
Warmest regards and safe travels to all!

kcglobalworks9,

Egypt.... Perfect weather there at that time. We spent 12 February days on a tour including a week on the Nile, with Trafalgar Tours, and an extra day on our own. It was a reasonably priced and we had a wonderful time with a great guide. Our tour was 12 days and called Wonders of Ancient Egypt. There were 39 in our group but we NEVER felt like we were ina horde. Our fellow travelers were a very congenial bunch.

Kenya.... Lion World Travel of Canada (Not Lion Tours, that is Chinese I believe). We went on a one week April tour because two weeks (12 days on the ground) was more than we could afford at the time. We spent the night of arrival in Nairobi, then 5 nights at three different safari resorts out in the country. It was magical to see the animals in their environment. Travel to Kenya basically took 24 hours from the west coast (plane change in Chicago, then again in London, then a long flight to Nairobi). I would check this Canadian tour company out. There were just five of us (our group). I think maximum was 6 or 8.

Galapagos....always expensive just due to the logistics. We haven't been because of the cost.

Chile....We went in March for 10 days. Santiago, Easter Island, Colchagua Valley (all day wine tour...excellent!), and Tierra del Fuego for a 3 day cruise to explore the Straits of Magellan. It was a "science for interested amateurs" cruise. Small ship (about 150 passengers), no entertainment, visiting the area to see the flora and fauna (penguins, yay!). I made all our own arrangements. Easy to handle in Chile. Not expensive, we got our money's worth.

I just realized that, except for Egypt, these are all in the southern hemisphere. There may be school holidays during some of that time, so something to factor in. If you are planning for Jan-Feb 2025, you are probably limited in some choices because of the short time frame. Whatever you decide, have fun!

kcglobalworks9,

Dean is on the nose about San Diego. I lived there for five years and go frequently as it is only about 100 miles from me. There is a month of entertainment there.
New Mexico.... Another place with more to do than just visit Albequerque and Santa Fe. Rent a car here and tour the state. If you decide to go there I can recommend tons to see and do.
Costa Rica.... I believe Jan. and Feb. are the prime times to visit, based on your group prices. It's on my list.
And Sicily....two weeks worth of lots to see, do and eat!

A feast to select from!
