iceland- Reykjavik to Vic

There's a group of us going to Iceland next month. We are renting a car and planning on driving from Reykjavik to Vik one day. Are there any stops along the way that people would suggest? Iceland is all about the beautiful nature and hiking, any thought ideas would be fantastic. The day before that we are doing the golden tour if that makes a difference in suggestions.

There are a few waterfalls that are on that route - Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss and Gljufurarbui (very close to Seljalandsfoss). Reynisfjara beach, Reynisdrangar (rock formations) and the picturesque church on a hill are in Vik. The promontory of Dyrholaey is also near Vik. On Reynisfjara beach watch out for the sneaker waves that can catch you unawares. Be cautious and don't go too close to the water's edge as there have been recent incidences of people being swept out to sea and drowning.

As was already said, there are several waterfalls along the way as well as the beach. With the Golden Circle tour, you will already be covering the major tourist stops in the Reykjavik region. Really, the best part of going to Vik is the drive itself. Iceland is a beautiful country. If you go beyond Vik you will get to the extremely old lava fields that are covered in moss. It's beautiful in its own weird, primordial way.
