Iceland in the WINTER

We are looking to visit Iceland in the Winter, we are interested in ice caves and Northern lights. We can't seem to gather the right info for advice in traveling at this time. Are a lot of attractions shut down? Has anyone done a tour in winter? Has anyone traveled in the winter? if so, do you recommend it? How long are the days?

Thank you for any advice given!

A couple of years ago I went to Iceland in early March.....3-4 days, mostly Reykjavik area. All (that we wanted to see) museums, shops, churches and spas were open. We did the "Golden Circle" day tour which was great. The day we got there it was cool but not cold, sunny and a light snow from the day before was melting. The second day (when we did the Golden Circle) it was bitterly cold, but sunny and dry. The next day, was pleasant but changeable...everything from light rain, snow, and so warm we had to take our coats off. It was pleasant enough for walking around Reykjavik though. The final day was stormy and rainy (stopped at the Blue Lagoon on the way to the airport.)

We went last winter and loved it so were going back this winter. It was COLD!!! But absolutely amazing. If it wasn't snowing it was sunny. Everything was open- all the shops in town all the stops along the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon. We were there 2 full days. Oh- how long are the days? Thats where it was kinda a shock. It got light around 10am and was dark by 5pm. But I thought it was cool.

We visited Iceland in the summer a few years ago and absolutely loved the country and people. We're also going back this January for thermal spas and northern lights!!! It's part of a flight/package deal from Icelandair
