Iceland and hopefully Greenland!!

We are visiting Iceland from Oct 4-10 flying round trip on Iceland Air. I would love to do a day trip to Greenland. Is that considered a free stopover? How do I do a one day trip to Greenland from Reykjavik ?
Thanks

Hi Agnes,
Thanks for your reply. It appears that the flight one way is 3 1/2 hours. Can a visit to Greenland be accomplished in one day or does it require ian overnight stay?

I've never been to Greenland (only Iceland twice) but if the flight is expensive (I'm thinking it may be), then why not spend more than a day there? If we're talking 7 hours of flying round-trip, that could make for an unbearably long day. Above all, you need to consider the flight schedule and sheer availability. What if the return flights are not on a daily basis in October to begin with?

I would first look at your flight options, pricing, and any itinerary constraints (assuming you'll be on some kind of guided trip or tour to see the icebergs or some other activity) before deciding on how long to spend there. A lot of your options will probably narrow down just by seeing what you have to work with.

I looked into going to Greenland from Iceland and found several tours for 3+ days but this was for mid June. I am sorry but I don't remember the names of the tour companies. I googled it all so you can start there. I wonder if the weather might hamper you being able to visit? Not sure but weather may be a factor to look into.
I did make it to Greenland while on a cruise. I would love to have spent three or four days up the east coast on one of the tours I found. Maybe someday!

Thanks Diane. I started to research those 3 day trips too. We weren't looking to extend our trip that long. But thanks for your kind response. If I come up with something unique, I'll post it on this site.

If you do end up going to Greenland, do double check which airport your flight departs from. I believe a lot of the Greenland flights leave from the smaller, central airport in Reykjavik (RKV) and not necessarily KEF.
