It was disappointing to hear about this when it happened a couple weeks ago. Same with Mt St Helens and the road washout. That one will not reopen for at least a year, if that.

I was sorry to hear about the Visitor Center on Hurricane ridge. We've been there a few times. Have they determined the source of the fire? I had no idea about the road to Mt. St. Helens. We had planned to go there in August and actually have reservations for camping. I will have to see how this impacts us.

Trotter, well, that's bad news. The Observatory was our objective. We are booked at Seaquest State park.

Latest, June 8th, from NPS, is a hope/goal to open the road to Hurricane Ridge "this summer". No date mentioned.
Also cautioned that once reopened there could be random closures due to debris removal

Cause of fire still unknown

Edit done to provide clarity. Dick, thanks for being my backstop

"The park" is still open, but the road to Hurricane Ridge is closed beyon Heart-of-the-Hills campground, as I understand it. The rest of this magnificent park remains open from various entry points along US 101 around the Olympic Peninsula.

Dick is right, the road is closed beyond the campground. Hurricane Ridge is beautiful. We've hiked from there several times. But, Olympic is a huge park. Immense. There is so much more to Olympic Park than Hurricane Ridge.

Thanks for posting the update. We usually avoid this area of ONP in the summer due to the crowds, and I think it will be a bit of chaos for a while with people trying to get in but having to wait or get turned away. We will wait until the fall to head over to avoid some of that.
