Anyone familiar with taking the bus from LGA to the Grand Central area? I don't want to take a bus and then a subway. I think there is a bus that leaves from all of the terminals and goes directly to Manhattan, but I can't find what the route is and what stop is for Grand Central. Also, I think there is an airport shuttle that goes into Manhattan, but I don't know what the fare is. Thanks for any ideas!
This link explains all the different options, estimated time, cost, etc. welcome pickups site.
Although it is on the Welcom Pickups site and theirs is by far the most expensive option, I think it does a good job explaining taxi, rideshare (Lyft/Uber), subway, and train as well. It seems to be oriented to European travelers as it shows dollar and euro costs.
If you go to the offficial Laguardia Airport website, and click on the three horizontal lines in the top right, the drop down menu will show a section of all your choices of getting to and from the airport.
To get to Grand Central via public transport, you will have to change buses. If you want bus only.
It's been several years since I've been in Manhattan and I know I took just one bus from LGA to a stop just outside Grand Central. I've done a pretty exhaustive search and it looks like that option is no longer available. I really don't want to transfer and take the subway, so I may just bite the bullet and take a cab. But, apparently there is also a shuttle that may only be around $30, so I'm going to check that out. The website is www.golinkshuttle.com. Someone just passed that on to me.
Or if you're looking for something cheaper (as in $18), try the relatively new Uber shuttle. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/beyond-europe/uber-begins-shuttle-service-between-nyc-and-laguardia-for-18
Bingo!! Thanks Mardee for the tip about the Uber Shuttle. They run about every 20 minutes and you reserve when you arrive at the airport -- $18. It's a relief to finally have a plan! And, thanks everyone else for their feedback, too.
PS -- the UberShuttle turned out to be a great option. Pick up was at LGA Terminal B downstairs at the Shuttle area, column #6. Before they pick you up, you can follow the driver and check the type of van and license plate number on the APP. The drive to Grand Central was direct and smooth -- the driver actually was ok with dropping me off a few blocks earlier so my walk to my apartment would be quicker. I reserved for my return to LGA and the pickup was just as smooth going from Grand Central. They actually pick you up on 42nd Street under the Park Ave overpass in front of Cipriani's, across from the Terminal -- easy, peasy. So, my experience with Uber Shuttle was great!
I’m planning a trip in February, thanks so much for the tip about the airport shuttle! That’ll save me a bunch of money on cab fare.
