We are going to England in June, from Texas. We have a 4 hour layover in Ontario. From what I've read it looks like we'll have to take a link train from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3, which will take us outside of the secure area. This seems fine, but in addition to going through security again, will we have to go through an additional checkpoint since we're Americans getting on an international flight? We're fully vaccinated and boosted, so I think we're OK as far as covid protocols are concerned. I'm more worried about waiting in 2 different lines to access our gate. Our flight departs Ontario at 8:30 pm on a Saturday night, if that makes a difference as to how busy the airport might be.
As you are exiting the terminal, best to contact the airport directly:

Thank you Marika, that's one of the websites I checked.
Are you flying two different airlines for this connection? If not I would have thought they would have it more streamlined.
Assuming it is not streamlined and you are leaving the secure area, you will got through a line up at customs in your first terminal. Then you should only have to go through security again on the way there. However when you return, you will go through both security and US customs in Canada, and I guess also Canadian customs, on arrival.
I'm not sure if the link below is actually much help, but I add it in case:

It's very helpful. Thank you!
