Will you have a car? If so, I'd recommend staying in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Been there twice and very much prefer it over the tourist-trap that is both sides of Niagara Falls.

Absolutely right. We will be visiting Niagara on the Lake for the third time this fall. It is a scenic 30 minute drive to the Canadian side of the falls, and much better than the tourist trap near the falls. There are several small hotels in Niagara on the Lake and many VRBO or Airbnb rentals.

Third vote for Niagara on the Lake we stayed in a b&b that I think looks like it closed.so no advice there but we loved the village. And stayed three nights a couple of years ago. Great shops and restaurants and c!ose enough to.falls yet far away from touristy areas good luck.

We stayed in a hotel on the Canadian side on our own trip to the falls and made a day trip one morning up to Niagara on the Lake - spending most of a day there enjoying the beautiful little town and regretting that we hadn't thought to use it as a base.
We enjoyed driving the Niagara River Parkway to get down to the falls - a scenic and meandering drive along the river with numerous pullout opportunities for a photo op or just to walk along the shoreline path.
Might add that the Old Fort Erie historic site about 25 minutes south of the falls is worth a stop if you're interested in some of the history of the area.

Following this as we are flying into Toronto in September and want to spend 1 day/night at the falls.

years ago, we stayed in a nice hotel on the Canada side (sorry, the American side was dismal). We have a view of the falls from our hotel room, amazing. Don't remember the hotel.

I'll add Niagara-on-the Lake gives you the option for more leisurely outdoor activities like a bike ride along the Niagara River. There's a number of wineries (ice wine slushies) and a food stand along the parkway you can stop for refreshments.

Fort George is worth visiting. Has some fun historical reenactments. I remember a musket loading demonstration.

Pretty good restaurants in NOTL too (mostly of the English pub variety). Most of the Airbnb's are only a few blocks walk from the main strip.

Just a whole other vibe than right on the falls.
