We used IES Shuttle (Island Express Shuttle) in March and were very pleased. They emailed our tickets to us, with clear instructions where to wait to be picked up and what time to expect them. Once we were in Honolulu there was great communication for both pickups letting us know how many minutes away they were. Our drivers pointed out things along the drive, so felt like we got a mini tour. The total price for the two of us round trip plus taxes and fees was $100.52.

Another vote for Charley's Taxis. Lately my cousin has been picking me up. But before that I used them. If memory serves you book online and prepay. When you land you call and they pick you up curbside. You don't go to the taxi rank. You still end up waiting a few minutes since the driver needs to come from the cell lot (or its equivalent) to pick you up.

One other option. If you book your hotel through Costco Travel, the Waikiki packages usually include a roundtrip shuttle. That's what we did and it was a good choice for us.

Jim, I hope that you've reserved a car for your time on the Big Island. Unless you plan to just sit at a resort for four days, you'll be needing a car to get around because the Big Island is BIG.

And when I've visited Oahu, I just Ubered. It works well and is reasonably priced.

Agree that a car is necessary on the Big Island. Not so sure about Oahu. I have rented one on the BI for our four days there and a house in Paradise Park south of Hilo, which is on the cliff overlooking the ocean facing east (lots of sunrises). Our plan is to visit Volcanoes National Park, Akaka Falls, ziplining at Umauma Falls (near Akaka) and also take my son to the visitor's station high on Mauna Kea. Full days to be sure. He has never been to the islands. Hoping Kilauea will be active while we are there, but not so right now. After this we have three nights on Kauai (Waimea Canyon, Sunset dinner cruise, Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour and a round of golf) before finishing in Honolulu.

you got your act together knowing what your plans are, it's a good thing. offering some do's and don'ts for big island.
are you flying into hilo? before heading to your place, stop at a grocery store for necessities (KTA local store right side of hiway 11 few miles from hilo airport) or down hiway 11 to keeau (foodland on right side when you turn left onto hiway 130).
be careful driving to your place, busy busy 2 lane hiway with crazy drivers, many headed same place into the puna district. HPP has no amenities, gravel roads couple miles to your place. once you are there you don't want to leave. driving at night can get you white knuckled with weather (fog, rain, slippery roads, no street lights DARK!! carry a flashlight and water.

this is the lush and green side of island, look for waterfalls, streams mountain ridges, gorgeous coastlines, many old sugar plantation camps, i grew along this "hamakua coast"
funny memory for me, years ago went to new orleans after the hurricane, took a ride across that long bridge on our way to abita springs brewery to buy beer to bring back home LOL and first road sign i see at end of bridge is slidell. have a few snickers when i see your town.

Jim, I second the recommendation to visit Hawaii tropical botanical gardens on your way to Akaka falls, You will want at least an hour or two to explore here. On Kauai, Waimea Canyon has some wonderful birding - honeycreepers are usually spotted. Maybe save room in your luggage for a pair of binoculars.

I know you and your son will love the Big Island.
