I'd love advice on hiking pole brands that can be packed in carry-on luggage. Thank you!
I purchased my pole from Amazon. Forgot the name brand. It folds up so I can put it in my suitcase.
Mine are the "Black Diamond" brand which were purchased at REI, and I have been very pleased with them. They do collapse, and are packed in my check through luggage. On multiple occasions, I have seen TSA confiscate hiking poles that were in traveler's carry on bags.
Pretty much all hiking poles can collapse into a small enough size for carry-on luggage. Whether or not you’re actually allowed to take them on board is an entirely different matter. Make sure to check and double check the security measures of both the airline and the airports.
Please read Rebecca's link. Many hiking poles have a sharp carbide tip concealed under a rubber "foot". This is what the TSA screeners have problems with. I've been told that if you are using the hiking poles as assistive devices when you come thru TSA you are more likely to be allowed to carry them on. I do not have personal experience with this both because I don't need an assistive device and because I drive over to the park from home. Still, nothing is guaranteed.
Where are you flying in to/out of? Hiking poles are available many places in Bozeman and Jackson as well as available in the General Stores, Gift Shops and book stores (run by the non-profit Yellowstone Forever) in and around the park.
If you are going to buy them consider to order from somewhere like Amazon or REI and have delivered to your destination. If you want to keep them after you could check your bag in the way home even if you don’t on the way there.
Hiking Poles
Carry On Bags: Yes
Checked Bags: Yes
Blunt-tipped hiking poles are allowed in carry-on or checked bags and must be screened like other property. Sharp-tipped hiking poles are not allowed carry-on items. Please note that even if an item is generally allowed, our officers make the final decision on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint.
Check with your airline to see if they allow hiking poles as carry-on items.

The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint.
The wording from TSA link above.
There is no absolute answer. Depends on the screener you encounter the day you are there.
Making sure there is no sharp tip "hiding" under a rubber tip seems to be good advice.
We bought a set of collapsible hiking poles from Costco (online) in 2025, made by Cascade Mountain Tech, and they were terrific! We wanted carbon fiber (lightweight yet strong) and these were a great value. They fit in our carryon bags and came with us to Switzerland. But we only brought one pole each, as two in each bag would’ve taken up too much space. TSA didn’t blink.
Happy hiking!
IF OP is flying in to Bozeman, there is a Costco there that is just off the Interstate. There is not a Costco in Jackson.
