Guide books (paper) for New Zealand

My son and his family live in Palmerston North (North Island). I've got a routine of spending February with them (I stay in an Airbnb, three blocks from their house, for a month; I'm friends with the owner now). I leave at the end of January 2019 and would definitely like to find a new, paperback, New Zealand guidebook. I can't seem to find my DK guide from my 2015 trip, when they lived in Queenstown. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do not travel with an iPad but I do have my iPhone with me. Thanks for any tips!

We have used the DK Eyewitness, Lonely Planet, National Geographic or Rough Gude. You may want to take a look at reviews on Amazon that would fit the needs of the areas you plan on visiting. We have friends who live in Auckland and Whangarei. During our visit we visited them & then went to the Coromandel, and Bay of Islands. Love the North Island. We had perfect weather in Feb.

You can usually find used copies of the DK Eyewitness guides (which we prefer) on Amazon for just a few dollars. Can probably find used copies of the other guides there too if you prefer a different format.

I gave all my NZ guidebooks away after our trip and don't even remember what I had, beyond the Eyewitness Guide. In truth I looked at them very little, as I found the TripAdvisor NZ forum to be so helpful.

Lonely Planet just issued a new NZ guide, as well as separate guides for North Island and South Island. The separate guides have about 10% more material than the combo guide (yes, I counted the pages that are not general for the country).

I haven't seen a better guidebook for NZ.
