My partner and I are flying into Guatemala City 9/10/20-9/21/20, we want to venture into Belize as well. Our flight arrives at 9 am. Im aware that it is still the rainy season but a good friend from Belize advised those dates in order to enjoy the independence festivals. I've done some research into the order of visiting Lake Titlan and then to Antigua and on to Tikal. I'm looking for the best itinerary to cover the hi lights of Guatemala and make it to the beach in Monterrico (or any recommended beach on the Caribbean side) and any left over time in Belize. Cost isn't a huge factor, we're not college kids trying to backpack between hostels (already done that). Nothing wrong with backpacking or hostels but we're looking for more comfortable and convenient accommodations. Flying between location or hiring a car isn't a problem. Im open to either renting an apartment/house or booking at a hotel in each destination. I've done some travel in Central America so I'm not a complete stranger to it.
Thank you in advance for any input!
I have read a lot about the Mayan Civilization and loved visiting Chichen Itza. Visiting Tikal would be fantastic. However, I have been concerned about how safe it is to visit that part of Central America.
Have you done research in to how risky it is to visit this area?
When it gets closer to Sept, be sure to check that they won't quarantine you for 14 days upon arrival. There are states in the US doing that to visitors from other states right now, so it would not surprise me for foreign countries to do the same.
I have spent more time in Belize than Gautemala for sure, wife is from there. I love Antigua , Rio Dulce, and Flores. I think Tropic air has flights from Flores to Belize, not sure if its into San Igancio or where. In Belize I would try to break the trip up between San Ignacio for jungle and Mayan adventures and like maybe Placencia, San Pedro or Caye Caulker.
