Getting around Cabo

I'll be in San Jose del Cabo in February 2024 with my wife and 7y/o. We're staying at the southwest end of Costa Azul beach at the Mykonos Bay Resort (nope, not Greece) along what I assume to be highway 1.

I'm likely not interested in renting a car as we plan on primarily having a beach vacation, but of course we'll need to get to/from the airport plus get into town for groceries, and maybe a short day-trip or two. For those who have stayed nearby, does reliance on Uber work well in this area? Lyft? Or should I be looking harder at hiring a van from the airport plus using taxis?

Any safety concerns beyond not picking up random cabs and perhaps avoiding nightime transport? If Uber isn't the thing to do, are taxi stands near a grocery store and/or the center of town?

I'll take any recommendations for where to go too... e.g. is Walmart the easy tourist grocery store (not my favorite company, but I'll take what I can get on vacation)? Best place for local takeout or kid-friendly place for drinks?

Thank you!

I always rent a car so can’t help you with your transportation issues. Some resorts have transfers for a fee. You can use a taxi from the airport and the hotel can get you one to return if they don’t have transportation.

Soriana and Chedruai are two grocery stores not far from Walmart. I like the Soriana.
There are a lot of great places to eat there. I just don’t remember the names. If you can get up to Cabo, on Thursday night, the Office restaurant has a show of dancers with nice costumes and nice Mexican music. It’s on the sand. Google it. Double check to see if the show is still on Thursdays. Reservations are required.

Thanks very much, Diane. That is helpful.

I'm hoping someone else may have knowledge of Uber/Lyft vs taxis in the area?

I found this site which might be helpful. Cabs are very accessible but the most frequent thing they say is to get a price before taking your cab ride and don't be afraid to haggle with them on pricing. They don't have meters like normal cabs so their pricing is based on what 'zone' they take you to.

Here's a helpful site for more information: https://www.welcomepickups.com/cabo-san-lucas/taxi/

We own in San Jose and have been down every year for the last 20. Never had a car, nor felt the need. Prebook a shuttle for the airport, local buses or Uber for anything else. I'd use taxis as a last resort. We generally walk everywhere, even to your resort, beach, downtown. 15 minute walk from your resort and you have two big grocery stores. Restaurant are a plenty.
