What do people think about visiting the country of Georgia now? On the one hand, I hate what the government there is doing and don’t want to provide them any support. On the other, besides the fact that it would be a wonderful place, the people are still in need of support. Additionally, I think it might be a little dangerous in the capital, although it’s very difficult to get daily updates. I just saw the RS book, “Travel as a Political Act” and I think RS would argue in favor of going but I’m still very undecided. TIA
No problem traveling to the nation of Georgia now— the State Department has no heightened warnings about visiting Georgia and it’s actually getting a lot of positive reviews in the travel community.
I would steer clear of what is going on in Tibilisi which is a shame cause its supposed to be an interesting city. The State Department isnt worried about travel there as its just level 2 (like Germany for instance). To me it looks like EuroMaidan 2.0 in the making and that might draw in little green men from russia like Maidan did, so that would always be in the back of my mind. But I am heading to Kyiv in a few days, so maybe i am not the one to be giving advice on such matters, but I would love ot visit Georgia. One, its beautiful and two the history is amazing and three, to support the people.
It is hard to get news on Georgia, but i get daily updates most every day through some links to news feeds I found through LinkedIn. The protest is still ongoing it does occupy a large portion of Tibilisi and it looks as though it will continue. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/27/lets-see-who-will-be-leaving-georgias-presidential-standoff-nears-crunch-point

I like Gate 1 Travel's tour of Georgia and Armenia, but not sure going there is good now?
I spent a week in Georgia and a week in Armenia just before Covid started. They both had a lot to offer. You could plan for both but remain flexible depending on the situation. If you want more info, you can send me a PM. I see that you are in the 11th, so it's a 4+-hour flight.
