Galapagos optional vaccinations

Finally pulled the trigger on bucket list Galapagos cruise! I know no vaccinations are required for US to Ecuador (Quito, Galapagos) and I'm good on all recommended shots except typhoid (got mine 2 decades ago!) If you've been recently, did you decide to get optional vaccinations/medications or no, and how did everything go?

The CDC website for Ecuador gives recommendations but it seems to mainly focus on the mainland and not the Galapagos. You can take a look to see what you might be missing. We always make sure we have a recent flu shot and covid shot pre-travel wherever we go. We did not encounter any mosquitoes in the Galapagos. If you want to update your typhoid vaccination that is an oral vaccine and gives you 5 years protection.

Thanks Mary! hmmm, I also want to visit SE Asia in the next few years, so the oral typhoid may be worth getting!

If you are good on all shots, what might you need in addition? What are the options that you are considering?

We did Quito and the Galapagos with Celebrity cruise lines and it was fantastic.

Quito is at a high altitude so you might wish to take altitude sickness pills before going there and while there.

We visited South America four times since 2011 and took several vaccinations, including yellow fever (which I later needed when doing a safari in East Africa). Also, got updates on tetanus and typhoid. Check to see if you need boosters for those two. You may not need yellow fever.
