FYI: Newsweek article titled "Britain Issues Travel Warning for US" just dropped

Britain Issues Travel Warning for US Published Mar 20, 2025 at 10:16

The United Kingdom has updated its travel advice for British citizens
planning to visit the United States, warning of potential arrest or
detention if travelers fail to comply with entry requirements.

It comes amid President Donald Trump's large-scale crackdown on
illegal immigration.

"You should comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry.
The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules strictly. You
may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules," the
guidance reads.

Why It Matters

Trump pledged to carry out mass deportations of individuals living in
the U.S. without legal status. His term started with large-scale
immigration raids, a suspension of asylum processing for undocumented
migrants, and executive orders expanding ICE's authority to arrest and
detain those in the country unlawfully.

This marks a notable change from the guidance issued earlier this
year. Archived versions of the U.K.'s Foreign, Commonwealth and
Development Office (FCDO) website from early February only briefly
reference U.S. entry rules being strictly enforced without an explicit
warning about potential legal consequences.

The new advisory does not specify a particular reason for the updated
language, but it comes amid heightened scrutiny of international
travelers by U.S. border officials.

I would suggest that Newsweek would be better off with a title of "Britain updates travel guidance for US" but then I'm not a journalist.

Robert Reich has published in The Guardian this week and in his social media outlets articles saying that his readers outside of the USA should consider traveling elsewhere this year -- natural wonders aplenty in New Zealand and Canada, for instance, rather than the Grand Canyon. Same goes with family entertainment like the Disney parks and nightlife like Las Vegas -- this kind of travel is available in ways that don't benefit the economy of the USA under current operations.

"You should comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry." - Hasn't this always been the case?

Gunderson, yes it has. But this guidance or advisory, similar to the one discussed a day or 2 ago about fhe advisory from Germany, is diplomatic speak. It's a warning to their citizens without taking the step of increasing their security levels. Which the US administration would react to.

Sounds correct to me. Should be the standard for every country.
