Flying to La Paz

I'll be flying to La Paz at the end of May. The routing I was given by my tour company is horrific: PDX-->DFW--> MIA 6 hour layover, BOG-->LPB, arriving at 2:05 AM. I'm wondering if anyone has tips for making this trip less taxing. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I'm traveling economy class, so thoughts about how to get access to a peaceful lounge in MIA would be especially helpful.

Many thanks.

Do not know if this will be helpful to you (or not), but (about 4 years ago) when we met our National Geographic Expedition that left LaPaz, we were advised to fly into Cabo. It is approximately a 2-hour drive (we had private transport via NationalGeo/Lindblad) and I understand it is not advised as safe for someone to rent a car and do the drive themselves. But, perhaps, you could hire a reliable, well-vetted transport and save many hours (and possibly for not much more or even less than that leg of your flight)?

In my opinion, to fly to Miami first is just wayyyyy out of the way. Surely there would be some sort of connection for you thru California or Texas....check Portland to Cabo and see what comes up.

I just checked a random date, and I see Delta and American have flights that fly Portland to Cabo in 6-7 hours...one with a connection in LAX and one in Phoenix. See if getting to Cabo gives you better options (by plane or vehicle) to do the quick trip up ot LaPaz.
If you have not been to LaPaz, oh the sunsets....beautiful :)

Maggie - thanks for your reply. I realize I wasn't clear. I'm not going to La Paz, Mexico, but rather, La Paz, Bolivia.

There don’t seem to be great routings to La Paz as there seem to be only two connection points operating if you are traveling from N America - one is the Avianca flight from BOG and the other a Latam flight from LIM. I am flying at the end of June to La Paz from Denver but using miles- so flying first to LaGuardia and overnighting in NY with relatives and connecting the next afternoon from JFK on Avianca with a short connection in BOG

For your long layover in Miami you could look to purchase a day pass to a lounge or access a Priority Pass lounge if you have access via a credit card

Arnold - thanks for the suggestion of purchasing a pass to a lounge in MIA. That's what I'll probably do. Much appreciate. Enjoy your trip.
