Tracking flights from United State to St. Thomas for a family celebration over New Years. With the volatility of the airlines and their prices today I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on how soon we should commit ourselves.

Not St. Thomas, but we’ve already booked flights and hotels for a September trip, six months out. If you find a price that seems reasonable you may want to act on it. By booking this early, or six months out, expect there will be changes to the airline’s schedule, either to arrival or departure times or even the aircraft (that would affect seat assignments). The joys of traveling these days.
