Flights from LAX to MCO

Hello all,

I am a new traveler (by air) and I am trying to arrange a quick weekend in Orlando the weekend of May 17-20... I have been tracking flights and I'm getting a lot of very cheap price alerts for Feb-March. I'm wondering whether if I wait until Feb if you think I could score similar sales for my May dates. I'm a "plan ahead super far in advance" person but I also would like to get the best deal. I'm hoping May 17 is early enough to miss the high "on" season prices.

Appreciate any thoughts!

You'll never know when you've hit bottom. Chasing the lowest price can drive you crazy.

Are you set on those dates? If you want to see how prices vary if you are flexible, then see https://matrix.itasoftware.com/#calendar:research=LAXMCO-MCOLAX. You can adjust a number of variables on that website and see how the fares change in response.

I don't use alerts, so I can't comment on whether to take your chances or not. The only advice I can give is that you'll have a good "range" in your head once you track things over time and you'll know when you're comfortable pulling the trigger. You'll also learn what tradeoffs you have to make to get a better fare (that can mean adjusting the dates, itinerary, and airports you're willing to use).

Good luck!

I'm willing to pay what it takes to get me there that weekend... I'm hoping to pay no more than $300. But I'm getting sale alerts for flights between now and March that are in the neighborhood of $150 round trip! I would like to get those prices :)

I'm extremely inflexible on dates... in fact, I'm kind of inflexible on times. I want to arrive at MCO between 3-6 pm and leave as late as possible Sunday night. The only flexibility I really have is that I'm willing to fly extreme economy and also fly out of whatever LA airport I can.

You can get $287 right now via Jet Blue and it's a direct flight - but I'm not sure it the flight times meet your specifications. With a price like $150 round trip, I am guessing that it's Frontier Airlines which requires more than "some" flexibility.

Use Google Flights and they will show you a calendar with the cheapest flights for the month. They also have a feature that tells you whether or not it's a good idea to wait to buy tickets. It's not definiite just a predicition.

Airlines want to fill up their planes over the next couple of months before they start worrying about spring. What will fares be? Who knows. If I could predict that, I'd be very rich.

Right now the cheapest flights for the times you want are on United to MCO and Jet Blue on return for $307. That could change in 5 minutes.

You'd have to be a prognosticator to know the answer to that. You can set a price alert on skyscanner or you can check airlines as often as you like. Once you find a fare that is acceptable to you, buy it. Then don't look back! :-)

I would be extremely surprised to see fares go down
