Fiji stopover

I'm heading to Australia and New Zealand in March/April 2024. I'm thinking of flying Fiji Airways and doing a stopover in Fiji.

My original thought was to spend 2-3 nights to relax, enjoy the beach, maybe an all-inclusive resort not to far from the airport at Nadi, get over jetlag, and then continue my journey. But then I started thinking as long as I'm going, why not stay longer and do some exploration. I love snorkeling, hiking, beautiful scenery, and experiencing local culture.

Anyone who's been to Fiji, how many days would you recommend? Would a week be long enough to get a good, varied experience? And if I do stay longer, where is the ideal home base?

We stopped in two ports in Fiji on our 23 day TransPacific cruise from Sydney to Seattle in 2018. We had two full days in Fiji.

It is a beautiful island, but we were not WOWED by the island. Don't get me wrong, it was nice for a couple of days, but no way would I pay just to go to Fiji and go to the beach. Of course, you are taking about a stop over, which is different.

I think it would be nice for 2-3 days. We are not much into all inclusive resorts were we just relax. We like to see things. Find out what Fiji has to offer and see if you would like to go there.

TripAdvisor, things to day and see what is available.

Hi there..I'm a Fiji lover..the trick is to stay on one of the islands. Flying into Nadi..I imagine. It takes about 30 minutes on the ferry..super simple to get a transfer to the port..buy a ticket..and stay at one of the resorts. You will b blown away..IMO..at the beauty of the reef and the water. We are divers..but snorkeling is amazing. Stay 3 or 4 nights and be on your way. If you have extra luggage..there is a storage area that is very inexpensive at the airport as you exit security..on the left. Really..to get to the gorg water you see in photos is very easy..you can also take a helicopter..pm me if you need more specifics. We too are going to NZ in January and will end up in Fiji for 10 days.
