Felt like I was in Paris: Van Gogh exhibit at Art Institute Chicago

I just returned from a long weekend in Chicago where I thoroughly enjoyed Van Gogh and the Avant-garde: The Modern Landscape. If you will be in Chicago anytime before September 4, 2023, I can’t recommend the exhibit enough. I was transported to the Seine and the suburbs of Paris in the 1880s. Beautifully curated, the exhibit features formative and unique works by Van Gogh, Seurat, Signac, Charles Angrand and Emile Bernard. https://www.artic.edu/exhibitions/9639/van-gogh-and-the-avant-garde-the-modern-landscape

What a wonderful experience! I wish we could go, but that's out of the question. Will it be exhibited anywhere else?

There's a Rodin and friends exhibit in Oklahoma City this month; I'm going to try to squeeze in a day there soon.

Jane, the exhibit moves on to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam in October and runs through January 14, 2024. The exhibit will have a slightly different name in Amsterdam - Van Gogh along the Seine.

JenS, we’re going to be in the Netherlands, in Leiden, in October! I will definitely follow up on this. Thank you!

I just checked the Van Gogh Museum website; it looks like there are plenty of tickets for the dates we'll be in Leiden.

Thank you so much!

Jane, so glad to hear that. We were just in the Netherlands (one of my favorite destinations) this past April and had a wonderful morning at the Van Gogh Museum. Leiden is lovely. Enjoy your trip!

JenS, we went to Chicago yesterday to see this exhibit - it was wonderful. Your description of being ”transported to the Seine and the suburbs of Paris in the 1880s” is exactly how I felt. I’m so glad you posted about it.
