Egypt - White Desert?

Hello,

We are a group of adults and children visiting Egypt end of March. The children are aged 9 months to 6 years.

We would like to do a day trip (or an overnight trip) to the White Desert - and wanted to know:
1. is it feasible with small children (infants)? with respect to the bumpy ride and expanse / weather / temperature- food will not be a problem since we will have food on us for the children.
2. is a day trip recommended or should do an overnight trip? considering the children and their ages. Ideally would like and overnight for the sunset and starry skies, however sleeping in a tent with such small children - not so sure.
3. We would be coming from Cairo and want to head to Luxor post this - is the drive / tour possible? any suggestions?

Or should we just skip it since we have small children / infants and just stick to Cairo / Giza and Aswan / Luxor?

Thanks!

Did you research what type of tent? We stayed in the desert in Wadi Rum in Jordan. We chose the luxury tent which was wonderful - wood floor, heat/ac unit, bathroom, small fridge, tea pot, 2 chairs with small table, plenty of room for a pack-n-play. The sunset and sunrise was amazing. Do they have a choice such as this?

Just remember, down south in Aswan, Luxor etc it was very hot. We traveled there March 2023 and the heat was stifling till we moved further up the coast.

I dont think the tents can be luxurious - since it is all make shift. They set it up there and then and remove in the morning and back.
Wadi Rum is more 'known' I suppose and hence facilities are better. This is out of nowhere is what I have understood from what I have read online / researched.

I have emailed a few tourism packages as well (tour operators) but also here to see personal experiences.

Thanks for the tip on the heat down south, we will need to make arrangements with hats and some good clothing / creams etc to make sure children are healthy.

Interesting issue.

I have been to Egypt three times and never had an interest in going to the White Desert. I have seen White Sands in NM and some great desert scenery in the US West.

Don't even think about trying to do this on your own. Egypt is still a place to be concerned about security. All tours in Egypt are provided armed guards for protection due to a terrorist attack over 25 years ago. Also, this is a very remote place. Getting lost out in the remote desert can be fatal.

If you insist on going, pick a REPUTABLE tour company with High ratings. Make sure you get all the details on the arrangements for plenty of water, food and the sleeping arrangements.

It can get very chilly at night that time of the year, then hot during the day.

Not sure what your other arrangements are for visiting Egypt, but you should join a tour for SURE.

Not at all - not thinking about doing this on my own or without a guide at all. Offcourse it will be via a tour - local guide and all.
The question is more like can a 9 month old handle the bunny ride? Is it safe and allowed?

@Barbara yes have looked up the Nile cruise and it is on the list as of now. However, how does a Nile cruise help with the White Desert tour?

I actually know a free lance guide who LOVES the White Desert. We used him as a guide in Cairo. I have his Whatsapp I can give you, if you PM me.

Look at Siwa Oasis, in the white desert Good accommodations on the north and west shores of Siwa Lake, and easy to take day trip into desert and camp a night or two as well.
