EGYPT Visa question

Hi - I will be going to Egypt in February 2019 with a tour (UniWorld). I will be arriving at the Cairo airport late at night (11:30 PM). Will there be bank kiosks open to get the visa then? Has anyone successfully done the e-visa? What has been your experience with getting visas? Thanks in advance!

I cannot answer your question but maybe Uniworld can. As a tour company they should know the answers.

Hi Norma,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, UniWorld suggests a third party to process the visas for about $120-150 which seems like a lot. I saw online posts on the web where one can get the visa as you land in Cairo for $25. I was concerned since my plane lands so late in the evening that there might not be adequate personnel then. Also I have read mixed reviews about the new e-visa process. I was hoping that folks would be able to provide some insight to this process.

Where are you located. I was fortunate that there was an Egyptian consulate in Chicago where I was able to get one before going

Hi,
I am in Seattle - don't think there is a consulate here. If I went to a city with a consulate, how long of a process would it take? (Just curious since I see one in LA, and I could make a visit to relatives there :-) )

It is more complicated it took about 5 days to process than just arriving in Cairo and paying the $25 . There were 3 other people with me that got their visa's at the airport.
But I would think that if there are International flights coming in at that hour that the government of Egypt would have the visa stations open.

Yeah there is some old info out there about that visa thing as a 24 hour operation just like passport control.
If you look at the Cairo Airport website (they don't have a lot of money it is very basic) there are all kinds of flights arriving after midnight

Hello there-
I arrived at Cairo international on October 24th this year at approximately 9PM. The airport was busy at that time, including the visa stands. $25 VISA could be paid in Euro or USD, and they would not accept the local currency Egyptian pound. I had to change my pounds to USD and then purchased the VISA, which was placed in my passport and then examined/stamped by authorities. There was a line and it did take maybe 20-30 minutes to get the VISA, but overall the process would not deter me from acquiring the VISA at the airport again.
There are bank ATMs near the VISA stands, and while I cannot definitively say the VISA stands will be open, it is extremely likely. Cairo airport takes international flight arrivals late into the night.
Have a great trip!

So, if planes full of foreign passengers arrive late at night and there is no way to get a visa, what now takes place? All the people sleep on the floor until the visa office opens in the morning? Common sense tells me that visaswill be available but that is just me being common sensible. By the way, as a paying passenger/customer, someone at Uniworld should have answered your question. Call them again and insist on speaking to a supervisor.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. It is good to hear about a recent experience at the Cairo airport. I am thinking now that the Cairo airport will be able to process visas when I arrive. I just need to think if I want to stand in line(s) at 11:30 pm after very long flights. I am glad I have some options.
