Using a reputable tour company is a wise decision. Our choice for Egypt was Odysseys Unlimited

I suggest that you compare several different companies. Compare WHAT you get (quality of hotels, number of days on tour and on Nile cruise) as well as PRICE.

We did Gate 1 Travel and it was top notch, our guide had a college degree in Egyptian history, we stayed in 5 star hotels and our river cruises ( two three day cruise were great).
When I compared Viking's tour/cruise was one day longer but Gate 1's was 60% of the price of Viking. Once you go to Gate 1's website you can sign up for bargains and they put there tours on sale a lot. You can save even more.

I previously visited Egypt in 1985 and did a tour with the Sheraton Hotel's, which probably doesn't exist anymore.
One great thing about. Egypt, since 1985, it has vastly improved its highways and infrastructure. It is more prosperous and it appeared that poverty has improved. Also, the new Egyptian Museum at Gaza is now open.

Gina, you had mentioned that the tour companies you researched do not fit your needs. What are your needs?

In 2022 I visited Egypt as a solo traveler. I am interested in ancient Egypt's history and sites, and my need/desire is to spend a good amount of time at specific archeological sites and museums. I have no interest in shopping, cruising, sunbathing, or fine dining.

What worked for me was to book my own hotels and flights and then hire private guides and drivers for an individualized itinerary. I used three companies, and I really liked Aswan Individual, so I am booking with them again for a return visit in 2026.
