In planning for another adventure trip we're considering Egypt. Any recommendations for a tour company to use? Thanks!
We had a fabulous, well run trip, top hotels and guides with Odysseys Unlimited.
Hi there..a fascinating country! We used Big Five. Super pleased with everything. Started in Cairo..our trip included a 5 night trip on the amazing Nile! And..I hear the new museum is open...we went in 2023 September. A bit HOT...but remarkable!
There have been a number of posts in the last few months. I've signed up with Odysseys Unlimited, which quite a few people have recommended.
I have been to Egypt three times, in 1983, 1985 and January 2023.
We did a two week Gate 1 Travel tour and our guide Nasrine was fantastic. We stayed in 5 star hotels, had two three day river cruises.
We visited Abu Simbel, the Aswan/Luxor area and of course the Cairo area.
Cost with all tours (we took all the optional tours) and free airfare from JFK to Cairo as well as internal flights was about $3500 pp.
Prior to booking a tour or cruise, I always compare several firms and I found Gate 1 was a little more than half what Viking was charging for essentially the same tour.
Do your own research, but strongly consider Gate 1 Travel. Also, consider Viking, OAT, Uniworld, AMA Waterways, Emerald, Scenic and Avalon. Consider local Egyptian tours if you like.
Ha, I'm sitting here right now researching Egypt tour companies and just saw this. Liz is right, though, KBK - there are a lot of posts on the Beyond Europe forum about Egypt tours, so you may want to check them out as well as responses here.
geovagriffith, I'm curious - which Gate 1 Egypt tour did you take? It looks like they have a number of them.
Following. This is the next trip on my bucket list.
I’ve read good things about Djed Egypt. We received a quote for a 14 day trip in December 2024 that includes 4 nights on a dahabiya for $3,620 per person excluding flights. I’m interested in other options.
We took the 14 day Crown of Egypt Tour.
If you do the dahabiya thing, make sure of the quality of your boat. Some of the big ones we saw in January didn't so wonderful.
I have traveled with Djed Egypt twice, and I absolutely loved it. The dahabiya cruise, in particular, was amazing. We had total control over where we went and what kind of accommodations we had. Gotta confess that I am totally spoiled on private tours now, especially considering how affordable they are in Egypt. I would do it again in a heartbeat if another opportunity came along.
One more note. Djed is a good company to do business with. Our first trip was in March 2020 -- ouch. We were about half way through the dahabiya cruise -- somewhere between Esna and Edfu -- when the Egyptian government announced that they were shutting down the airports because of Covid. Djed moved heaven and earth to help us get out of the country before the shutdown. The dahabiya crew was amazing, offering to let us stay with their families if we got stranded. My friend returned in October 2021 to complete what we had started the previous year and to revisit some other places. Djed credited us with everything we missed the previous year. It was a really good experience.
travel4fun, I've heard good things, too, about Djed Egypt. Both Marie and MariaF have raved about them. My problem is that it's just me, so I would need to find a person (or 2 or 3) to go with me. :)
Thanks for the feedback and recommendations!
