Egypt Nile Cruises in the winter

I get it that Egypt is HOT March-November

But what about Nile cruise to standard locations (Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, Valley of the Kings) in January?

Temperatures? I’m see cool at night, 70’s by day??????

How to pack?

Thanks for your help……

Wayne F,
January will be fine. We were there in Feb. of 2019 and had good weather everywhere...Cairo, Aswan, Karnak, Abu Simbel. The cruise (one week...Karnak to Aswan to Karnak) was wonderful. Sometimes we needed a light wrap on the top deck in the evening. And March could be okay, esp. early March. I always take my REI windbreaker in its stuff bag (very small) and didn't need it. A shawl or light jacket should be all you need. We women didn't wear shorts or sleeveless tops, but cool fabrics instead of polyester is wise.
We loved our trip of 3 nights Cairo, seven nights cruise and two nights Cairo was perfect!
Have a great time!

I have done the Nile cruises twice, in 1985 and 2022. Both times in the Winter.
In 85 temps were up into the 80s, but in 2022 temps were cooler with highs in the low70s. We even had snow in the Nile Delta (it melted quickly). You don't want to do Egypt in the Summer.

Pack for moderate temps most of the day, but chilly in the morning and evening.

Egypt is special, be sure to book a guided tour. Security is important in Egypt and every tour group has an armed security guard.

We did 2022 with Gate 1 Travel, and they were great, with an awesome low price.

Your reference to Cairo as a standard location for a Nile Cruise intrigues me. We are researching a Nile cruise ourselves and find that they only seem to go between Aswan and Luxor. Are there any cruises that go from Cairo all the way to Aswan?

I think a reference to a Nile cruise from Cairo means a shortish boat ride on the river (ala Paris Seine cruises?) A light sightseeing ride? Yes, the real cruises (overnighters) are Karnak or Aswan based. The Valley of the Kings isn't on the river. You need a bus or car ride to get there.

If I wasn't clear, on our trip we flew from Cairo to Karnak. Took our cruise from there to Aswan and back to Karnak, then flew from Karnak to Cairo.

We spent most of January in Egypt. Sometimes we needed our down coats, gloves and hats. Other times no gloves or hats. Other tour members had to go to stores to buy coats, hats, gloves. Be prepared!
I can’t stand being hot and January in Egypt was for us, perfect.8

We went over Christmas in 2021. They were having a cold snap at the time--so cold that school was cancelled because many children don't have coats (this is what our tour guide told us). The high was 55 degrees. We're from Minnesota, so we were fine with our light jackets. It was generally in the 40s at night and almost 70 during the day. One day was above 70, but it was only 72.
That was the only day that I went without a light jacket while touring The cruise was cool because you are moving so there is wind. I wore a few layers and a stocking cap when sitting on top of our ship in the sunshine. That being said, I would rather have that than have it be 110 degrees.
