Egypt in 5 Days

Hey All!

My husband and I are planning to spend 5 days/6 nights in Egypt, splitting our time between Cairo for the pyramids and Luxor for the Valley of the Kings. Is that enough time, or are we missing out on a lot by going there for only 5 days?

Thanks! Any advice on Egypt or the destinations within is more than welcome!

That's pretty short for a trip to Egypt. Are you planning on doing this on your own or with a tour company? I travel mostly on my own but I was glad to have a guide when we were in Egypt in January. You don't have time for a Nile cruise in a time that short and that's a nice way to transit around. You could do Cairo and Luxor in 5 days but it would be a frenetic pace. I used a company called Egypt and Beyond Travel. If you're set on the 5 day trip, you can email them and they'll hammer something out for you. I really enjoyed my trip. My blog's linked to my profile if you want to see the details of what we did.

Five days is cutting it too short.

You will need 3 nights in Cairo just to see the Pyramids and Egyptian Museum, plus some of the other sites.

There is a lot to see in Luxor and clearly you won't be going to Aswan or some of the other upper Egypt sites.

I recommend a Nile river cruise in the south for 5 days.

Thank you both for your input - I suspected 5 days was too short. I think we would be wise to lengthen our stay there and fully experience the country! Perhaps 10 days...
