Hi - planning trip to Egypt in August wondering if anybody has been there lately and is it safe thanks Jan
Depends where you go, I travel to the Marsa Alam area. I have not had any issues. But I don't go to the other areas, my interests are diving the red sea. I am going again in Oct/Nov, and I always travel with friends. We are on a chartered plane and always chaparoned. They have warned me about going into Cario alone, ok with others. Then this happened, Latest update: Terrorism section - on 29 June, Egyptian Public Prosecutor Hisham Barakat was killed and a number of others injured in an explosion in Heliopolis, Cairo.
The worst area is SHAMØL S¥NØ’ and JANoB S¥NØ’, also MAúRoH. Check the link below for explanations for the warnings.

I would also check out the US http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/country/egypt.html
One change for me is the new get your visa before you arrive policy or you can't enter the country. I am close to Chicago so not a problem to send off my passport for the visa. If you need the link let me know.
Jan,
You may also want to check this website, especially the "Safety & Security" section.....

Thank you for replies - I saw that bombing news and that got me a little scared - I'll check the web sites suggested - we are planning to stay in Cairo for just a few days - just want to see Pyramids, museum and little ride down the Nile and then leave.... Now not sure - will just be my son and myself - son is an adult.
