Economical hotels and B&Bs in Montreal and Quebec City

I’m wanting to visit Montreal (one night near Notre Dame Cathedral) and Quebec City (3-4 nights) next spring. Any recommendations for economical hotels and/or B&Bs for a single traveler would be greatly appreciated!! Would prefer locations near public transit.
