Early November road trip from Quebec City

My husband & I are traveling to Quebec City & Montreal in early November. I am wondering if we could plan a couple nights in one of the small towns on the NW side of the st Lawrence (the ones that are just a few hours away). Concerned about road conditions in the first 2 weeks of November. Any thoughts appreciated.

In early November, I think rain is more likely than snow or sleet. If the town is on a major highway, even if there is snow, the roads will be cleared quickly. Plan to drive in the short daylight hours for the extra visibility (and melting any snow). I think the roads are likely to be fine, but if a major storm is in the forecast, can you be prepared to change your plans a few days in advance?

My first thought was why would you want to do that. Too late for the fall colours, too early for snow season- at least too early for winter sports. The drive between QC and Montreal is less than 3 hours, unless you get caught in rush hour traffic, or its raining or snowing.
