And in addition to being spam, it’s terrible advice. Download the Careem app and call a taxi. Incredibly convenient and relatively inexpensive.

But what's the draw in Dubai besides shopping? Can you swim in the sea?

I think Oman looks really interesting...

The previous suggestion of using local taxis is a good one. Rates are relatively inexpensive. There are a few things to do besides shopping. Although the immense Dubai Mall is something you really should see. If you dont mind heights, riding to the top of the Burj Khalifa gives incredible views. Exploring along Dubai Creek and the souks is really interesting, and has some good eateries. And you can day trip into the desert with a desert safari tour.

I'd allocate time to visit Abu Dhabi. Its about 90 min away by bus, shared taxi, taxi, or car service. It has the magnificent Grand Mosque; truly something to behold. You can also tour the Qasr Al Hosan buildings and the Heritage village to get a taste of what living was like before oil was discovered. Abu Dhabi also has its own Louvre, and for more modern entertainment, there's Yas Island.

However, given the current unrest in that part of the world, Im not sure that's really an ideal vacation spot. While the Emirates were heavily targeted early in the war, bombings have eased in recent months. Hopefully an actual, real peace deal will emerge soon.

Ok, so it sounds good as a stopover for a few days if you fly Emirates right? But not to just go there.....from east coast USA???

Maybe fly Emirates to safari in South Africa and do. stopover in Dubai?

Seeing seven Emirates in one day on a bus tour is not my style of travel, but thanks!!

How about Oman..I ought to begin a thread about that...(??)

Tagging onto CJean's post: if you plan to buy travel insurance, make sure "acts of war/unrest" in the area are not already considered "known events", in which case they won't be covered!

Please note the original post is from back in December. It was awakened in June by a spam post.

We cancelled our trip for early June due to unrest----it was OK one day, then the next--more bombs, so had to cancel in order to have time to make alternate plans. Planning to reschedule, so thought I'd ask here. Had planned 3 days in Dubai, 3 days in Abu Dhabi (particularly to see the Louvre) and 2 or 3 days in Doha. We are flying out of Doha back home. Does that sound like enough time? We won't be jetlagged, as will be arriving in Dubai from elsewhere nearby. Thanks!
