Hi!
I will be in Scotland in March in Inverness. Was wondering if roads will be safe to drive since it will be a winter month
Thanks!
You'll be dealing with fewer tourists not used to driving on the left side of the road, either in rental cars or in their own vehicles that they brought over on the ferry!
The roads should be fine. There might be snow, there might not be. If there is then the main artery roads will be cleared and gritted. I've driven in Inverness and the surrounding area during snow in February, even up in the Cairngorms and had no problems.
The only caveat I would add would be your level of confidence. Some people have no problems with driving on the left (I'm making assumptions about your location) others find the prospect terrifying. Some people hate driving in the snow, for others it doesn't bother them so for me to say that I had no problems is entirely subjective because I'm fine with driving in the snow, put my wife in the same conditions however and it's an entirely different story.
March could be mild and sunny or you could be driving in a white-out. Early March is obviously likely to be worse than the end of the month.
The major roads should be gritted if snow is forecast, but side roads and those in rural areas won’t be. Pavements (sidewalks) aren’t gritted.
cleared and gritted.
Interesting how people who share a 'common' language find a way to make usage unique.
"plowed and sanded" would be the US description.
Sorry for the off topic observation.
