I've seen a number of people on the forums recommending Djed Tours in Egypt -- are they out of business? Their website is still up, but the three emails I've sent asking about setting up an itinerary for Jan '23 have gone unanswered. Am I too early? (If so, when is good to start booking Egypt in January?) Is email not "the way" to reach out to someone in Egypt? TIA
I have traveled with Djed twice, and have had amazing and wonderful experiences both times. Unfortunately, it can be really difficult to get them to respond to email. I was under the impression that they have been more responsive about responding to email lately, but, looking at your post, maybe not. Sigh.
Try reaching out via Facebook messenger, or try calling them on WhatsApp.
Also, make it very clear in your email that you are ready to book your trip, and that you have to book with another company if they don't respond. Maybe they get a lot of frivolous requests. I dunno. Once you get their attention, though, they are really good about working with you to develop the perfect itinerary.
Edit: One more thing. I have gotten better responses when I have been fairly specific about what I want to do while in Egypt. General inquiries, along the lines of: "I am thinking about coming to Egypt in 2023" will not generate much of a response. A more specific inquiry along the lines of: "I would like to visit Egypt in January 2023, and I would like to see Cairo, Luxor, and Abu Simbel ..." might generate more of response. Their "Classic Egypt Tour" is a good starting point. Also, give them an idea of the level of hotel accommodations you want. All of the arrangements are custom, and so it might be helpful to think of them more as a travel agency than a tour company.
I was worried about what to expect on our first trip because of the slow email issue. However, they were absolutely on top of their game once we arrived in Egypt. Everything about the actual trip was flawless. In addition, they went above and beyond to help us get out of Egypt during the great Covid shutdown of March 2020. They provided one of the best travel experiences I have ever had, and I would travel with them again in a heartbeat.
I started booking a January 2022 trip with Djed Egypt Travel in May 2021. Yes, it took a few days for them to respond by email; I had to send three emails over 10 days before they finally responded. (My third email to them had a subject line in all caps!) I was more or less clear about what I wanted: a private tour, using their "Classic Egypt" tour plan with a few additions. I also had a fairly clear idea of what dates I wanted to be there. Once I had a response, they have been very helpful planning the trip. I have been very pleased with the attention to detail and the suggestions for hotels and activities. Two friends are joining me and Died has accommodated their needs - including providing a cooler with ice pack every day for two weeks for some meds that need to stay cool. I'm leaving very soon and will report back in early February re. how it went. (And thank you, Marie, for your suggestion to use this company!)
We booked our Nile cruise with them which we did like online so no issues there. When I had a couple questions however, yes, as stated above, slow to respond.
If like me, you are impatient, check out Go Luxor Tours, who I used for a custom trip this past October. Michael will respond within an hour, guaranteed. I had many communications with him, and never more than an hour to respond. He will also call you on WhatsApp if you like. We also had a flawless tour with them.
jmauldinuu - Have a great trip!!!! I can't wait to hear about it when you return.
Tarek will probably be your city rep in Cairo and Osama in Luxor. Please say hello from Marie and Martha. There is more variation with the guides and driver. If you wind up with Moustafa Mohsen (Cairo guide) and Mr. Zaki (Cairo driver) or Amani (Luxor guide), please send our regards.
Thanks, Marie! Our Cairo guide will be Ahmed Abdallah and he has already contacted me via WhatsApp (I called him first by accident, then quickly hung up, then he texted me). He has given me his phone number/WhatsApp number and told me to contact him 24/7 with any questions or concerns; he will meet us when we land, before immigration. Can't wait! I'll give greetings to the guides that you mention if we should have any of them.
I am in Cairo right now! I inquired with Djed but had a hard time with responses and their pricing was high. I ended up taking an Intrepid tour and then spending 6 days on my own in Cairo. What a BLAST!!!
I'm flying out today. Negative Covid test, yah!!! Stressful waiting to hear as it's gotta be 24 hours or less now. One of my tour members tested positive when she got home so I was on pins & needles.
have you looked in your spam folder? replies may have been diverted there...
Thank you all for your replies -- I will be more specific in my dealings (we are ready to book, know pretty much what we want to do, and when we want to go) and see if that gets a reply.
I did check my spam filter :-)
Looking forward to hearing folks who recently traveled to Egypt, especially since January 2022. My husband and I are thinking about going in the fall (2022) but I’m a bit leery of going now with the current COVID situation (high transmissibility) and poor mask use. I’m not against traveling (we took a long trip to Europe this past fall), but am just concerned about quarantining in Egypt. Anyone have any knowledge of what happens and where people would have to stay? By the fall, of course, who knows what the COVID situation will be.
Those of you who are there, have a great time! And I look forward to reports when you return.
I sent Djed a submission through their online form on January 18, to which they replied on January 28. The reply contained a suggested itinerary that showed they really paid attention to my comments, including pricing with possible upgrades and add-ons separately detailed. I emailed them about a week later with some follow up questions and they answered within two days. I booked my airline tickets on Friday and emailed them the dates and times, and again two days later Mohamed replied with an updated itinerary taking into account the dates of arrival to align with dahabiya departures and the other things we want to do.
I suggest that you include enough information in your communications that they know generally what you are interested in, your approximate dates of travel, etc., and be patient. You have a long time before your trip. We aren't traveling until November so it doesn't seem that it's a first-come, first-served situation.
celeste,
I’m so excited for you! When will you be going?
We are planning for the end of the year so not yet ready to contact them. We’d also like to add Jordan which influenced our timing. I’d like to go after November so that we can see the new museum of antiquities which is supposed to reopen in November.
November 1-17. Never too early to start planning! ;)
celeste,
Never too early! I agree! Congratulations!
