Daytrip to Miyajima from kyoto

Hi, sorry about the previous question. I look through the thread and saw question about Japan so I am in right forum.
Has anyone done a daytrip to Miyajima from Kyoto?
I read it is almost a 3 hours train trip from Kyoto with the JR pass one way. I know you go through Hiroshima then take the ferry. We wanted to see the tori gate. Doubt if we will be lucky to be walk to the Tori gate on a low tide. We wanted to take the ropeway too. It will be a long day. Thanks.
