I must go to DC in September. So far my hotel choices are:
- Hotel Hive
- Beacon Hotel and Corporate Headquarters
- Yotel (stayed here before. Its “okay”)
- Citizen M
Any suggestions? Or something else under $200 and close to the Mall?
Help appreciated.

Still no replies?
Not even a well disguised AI response. But I booked today.
Given your continuous generosity toward people asking anything about Budapest, I feel a little bad that none of us DC folks offered any help. I just don't know anyone who has recently stayed in any of those hetels. They all are reasonably accessible to the Mall. During the school year, the streets outside the Hive (George Washington Univeristy campus) might be noisy at night but not during the summer. I hope you enjoy your stay.
Its okay. Its not really the focus of the forum. The Hive was the most econiomical, but I went for CitizenM. I am traveling solo except maybe 3 out of 6 days with my daughter and grandson and the bar at citizenM looked better. That and closer to The Warf. I'll do that and a few of the Smithsonisns .... mom and dad have their name on a brass plaque in one of them. Always good for the photo opp. Then back home to Budapest.
Hi, did you look at the Phoenix Park Hotel? There’s a new Arlo Hotel near the Building Museum and GAO (north of Judiciary Square). Also, a Sonesta went in where an office building was on Massachusetts Ave near the Phoenix Park. Those are my suggestions. Good luck with the search!
I worked in that building at 20 Massachusetts Ave before it was gutted and turned into a Royal Sonesta. Not a bad area to stay. On the other side of town the Club Quarters at 839 17th St also was an office building in which I worked.
In Dec of 2016 I stayed near the Convention Center in the Washington Plaza Hotel.
Probably could have done better but the place was decent, got around by walking, 30 mins or more and taking th subway, no rental car, absolutely no ride-sharing, no taxis, except r/t to the airport.
Given the declared national safety emergency, I wondered if anybody is still traveling to DC.
Happy travels.
David, I can attest that they are. Saw a family of four who were having a morning picnic near the Senate while I was heading to work this A.M. Oh, look, two young women rolling by on their scooters. Over there, yes, that is indeed a family heading into the Museum of Natural History. Plenty of visitors still here!
Here is the emergency declaration. Rampant crime it says.
Troops have been deployed!
But thank you for reassuring me. I thought perhaps the declaration could be, you know, at odds with== how shall I put this-- reality. Not since the civil war have we seen the troops deployed in DC. It might make think of looking for a hotel in say, oh, I dunno, Toronto.
Happy travels.
What about numerous troops deployed in DC in 1967?
