We are going to take a 4 day trip to Cyprus from Tel Aviv and wondering if pathos is the best base to tour from. Any hotel suggestions for southern or western Cyprus?

I'm not the best person to answer but I too will be traveling to Cyprus too in the fall, and I might as well take a stab in answering.
There's 3 airports you can land from. Paphos has an airport so that can work well as a city to sleep over. There's a lot of tours of Paphos and to other areas in Cyprus you can take.
I think Paphos is a great city to stay if your are into Eco sites like Akamas National Park.
Personally, I chose Limmasol because I'm landing from Lanarca- and you can get to other cities from there in roughly an hour drive. I'm planning to use the bus.
As for hotel, that's hard to recommend because it's based on preference and how much you wanna spend.

Paphos is a good base - plenty of old sites to explore and it's easy to drive up into the Troodos Mountains for a day and over to the north coast.
