Traveling to Cuba probably Jan 2018, NOT with a tour. Did this a few months ago when commercial flights for US citizens only entered thru another country. We had no trouble in immigration when returning. But am wondering if, since Trump, if any tightening of this. We went thru Cancun & had 2 Mexico entry stamps, but no exit so we told them we had been in Cuba and no questions at all.
Wondering if this continues to be true
PS , we do not qualify for any of the 12 entry criteria as we want to do our own thing....
A friend of ours just flew to Havana and because they stayed in an Airbnb, they had the "check" that they needed to enter the country. They were on their own with no tour group.
You don't say how you plan on getting into Cuba this time. If you are hoping to fly direct from the US now, you won't even be let on the plane if you are not able to be placed into one of the 12 options. Who knows how much tighter things may be by January.
You probably were not questioned about your Cuba visit last time because there were no Cuba stamps in your passport. Cuba has changed and they stamp every passport now.
You can get a visa on the day of your flight on Southwest JetBlue and Spirit. You just have to lie and say you are going to support to the Cuban people.

You'll have to check on of the boxes, likely the people to people visit. I have not heard anything about any crackdowns, which would likely make headlines. But that doesn't mean they won't start.
How many people employed at the for profit companies that are enjoying revenue with flights to Cuba like United (who have got enough problems right now and has government contracts), Southwest, JetBlue Spirit, and Delta would be hurt by a government crackdown. You think the government would want to hurt the economy by causing fear of travel through some kind of crack down.
