Can anyone give me info on rental cars from Liberia airport? There will be 6 adults going to a rental 1.5 hours from airport. We would need transportaion to grocery store, zip line, volcano?, etc and will be there for a week

Not sure if I used budget or Dollar. I rented online and picked it up at the airport.
Unless you are doing a tour, you need a car to get to the various sites.

We used Budget in 2016. The shuttle driver was waiting for us at the airport to take us to the pick-up location a few miles away. We used it to drive to LaFortuna and then to Tamarindo where we dropped if off. We were completely satisfied.

I'd suggest you read the advice on the State Dept web site re: driving in Costa Rica before choosing to rent a car. There are some risks and precautions. Driving in/around Arenal was no problem, but we didn't really like the drive from Arenal to San Jose. Not knowing the Liberia area, I would suggest getting a car service to your rental and see if you can pickup a car closer to use for your week around the area.
