I haven't been to Costa Rica, but it would be a good idea to read the advisories issued by the U.S. State Dept. - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/CostaRica.html .
Read the Safety & Security and Health sections carefully. If you need any vaccinations, get those done well in advance of the trip.
