Costa Rica - beach recommendation post tour?

Doing a tour of Costa Rica and then want a couple of days at the beach after for relaxation. Any suggestions? We fly in and out of SJO (San Juan) on a morning flight, so don't want too long a drive back to airport. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you can fly out of Liberia instead of SJO, you’ll be much closer to beaches. We stayed at Tamarindo, which was an easy 1 hr 15 minute drive to Liberia. There are other beaches within 30 minutes of that airport.

Getting to the San Jose airport for a morning flight from a beach area is going to be tough. Roads are slow. It’s only 110 miles or so from Manuel Antonio to San Jose but it’s going to take you about 4 hours.

I would stay near the airport the night before a morning flight. Once you make that change, you have a range of beach options - I’ve only been to Manual Antonio in that area. It’s lovely but there’s a lot of other nice choices as well. I’ve only been to Costa Rica twice so hopefully someone with more travel experience there might have an idea for you.

We are traveling to Costa Rica in December. Looking into Covid information. Test requirements.
Any information would be great. Flying out of Orlando on AA. I will check Costa Rica's site.

Thank you,

Alice19, you are better off starting your own topic. I can tell you our experience from August: at that time testing was not required for entry into Costa Rica. If you are NOT FULLY VACCINATED (2nd dose at least 14 days prior to arrival), you need to purchase very specific travel insurance. Google Costa Rica COVID travel insurance and you’ll find tons of info. If you ARE FULLY VACCINATED, you no longer (as of mid August) need this insurance coverage. As always, check with official sources so as not to ruin your trip with outdated info.

To get back into the US, you need a rapid or PCR test within three days before your flight. You need to really plan where you will be during this time period so you have access to a test.

Regardless of your vaccination status, there is an online health form that must be completed within 3 days prior to your flight TO Costa Rica. You need to either attach a picture of your vaccine card or a copy of your travel insurance. You will be issued a QR code once it is approved. Each person traveling must have thus or you will not be allowed to board the plane.

Print your boarding passes and health form QR code letter and bring them to the airport. Our airline (Alaska) required paper boarding passes, which they stamped after reviewing your health form and checked at the gate. It created quite a long process when people were not prepared with their paper boarding passes.
