What exactly are you asking for? One way trip to C Rica? Or a tour that includes Costa Rica? By the way Costa Rica is a great country to visit with one flaw -- no one ever looks at a clock. Truly a laid back country. Our son was married in Costa Rica.

Are there reputable tour companies with pre-set itineraries that are “inclusive” and “time-tested”similar to Rick Steves tours?

We went with Odysseys Unlimited. It was a great tour. I would highly recommend doing the pretour trip to Tortuguero. It is well worth it. Odysseys Unlimited offers small group tours like RS but is more upscale. Unlike RS, you do not have to handle your luggage once you are on the tour. You can choose to have Odysseys book your airfare or book your own. If you want to book your own, ask for the land only price. If you book your own airfare, Odysseys will not transfer you from the airport to the first hotel. You will be responsible for your own transportation. Whereas on RS you do not tip the guide, with Odysseys you do ($10-$15 per day per person at your discretion). We just took our eighth tour with Odysseys so we are happy customers. I hope this helps.
