Convertor / Adaptor for Japan and S. Korea

What do I need as far as convertor / adaptor for Japan?

I only have my ipad and Android smart phone. And maybe a massage gun. I will be spending three nights in Yokohama before sailing.

We are going to overnight in S. Korea but I will be sleeping on the ship so I do not think I will need anything but what the ship provides.

Assuming you're American, Japan uses the same plug type (two flat prongs) and should fit your phone and iPad plugs. You won't need a voltage adapter for phone or iPad, not sure about massage gun. South Korea uses a European plug (two round pins).

Japan has the same plug type as US. I have never needed a converter to use my curling iron. Likewise, I've never used a converter to charge my phone - 4 trips in the past 3 years.

Interesting, when I google I get different answers regarding needing a power converter - the voltage is slightly different. I was blissfuly unaware of this - and have had no problems.

edit - cross-post - Glad to see Simon agrees!

I charged all my electronics without any converter. The only time you would need an adapter would be for something that involves the third (grounding) prong (perhaps a CPAP machine) and that would allow you to change three prong to two prong.

Thanks all

So I may not need anything at all but if push comes to shove, I might need an adaptor.

Let's make this nice and simple.

For Japan, it will be just like home. Same plug, same voltage. You don't need anything.

For South Korea, it's basically the same as what you had for Portugal or much of western Europe. Whatever you did there do that in South Korea.

@ FrankII- It isn't quite that simple if you have a three pronged American plug as I mentioned above.

Hi Frank II

In Korea, we are staying overnight on the ship and then disembarking the next day. So I also may not need anything in Korea unless of course, I will need something at the airport. I am flying home from Seoul. I assume the ship will have all the right plugs.

I have. a Bestek convertor / adaptor that worked very well in England and Europe but I broke the adaptor today. I broke off the EU clip.

I am going to take a look at Amazon ...

I think my iPad and cell phone are two pronged. Going to check on the massage gun but I would be using that only on the ship. I assume the ship is going to have all the right plugs, etc.

The Spirit spends a lot of time in Japan, Korea and other areas of Asia.

You don't need anything extra for your cellphone and ipad which I noticed you mentioned earlier in the thread.

If it's an iphone and and Ipad then all you will need for Korea, for those two, is a plug adapter for your charger.
