Chicago hotels, downtown, centrally located $150-225/night

I am traveling to Chicago,IL at the end of April 2024 for a couple of nights before traveling Eastward to visit my sister in South Bend, IN. please give me some hotel or AirBnB recommendations for a stay near all the action. Plan on a river boat architecture tour and probably a re-visit to The Art Institute. I’m meeting up with a friend who used to live in Chicago and I will see what she suggests. In the meantime, I would love your thoughts.

I did some looking for an early fall stay. Oh boy, the hotel rates were high. Do you have credit card or hotel points? I guess it's a good use of them.

We live and die with Hotel.com and Hoteltonight.com It has been several years since we stayed in Chicago (son moved) so cannot recommend a specific location.

Guess I will try using credit card points but there isn’t much of a bargain there either.

I have used the regular hotel search engines to find a nice property but wanted personal experience. So, keep the suggestions coming and then I will run them by my friend.

So far, I have. On my list:
Silversmith
Claridge House
Hotel Felix
Hampton inn majestic
The Godfrey hotel

Thank you all for the suggestions and I will look them over. There is some time and I don’t think early Spring will be too busy in Chicago, although I will say I’m not that familiar with the city, as I’ve only been there transiting or on a weekend visit when my friend lived there.

Hotel Palomar Chicago is a great central location near the Art Institute and Riverwalk. Modern, pet-friendly hotel with a cool cocktail lounge. and The Robey Chicago in Bucktown has small stylish rooms and is a short ride on the L train to downtown. Hip local neighborhood with good dining. Definitely take the architecture river tour - it's a highlight. Be sure to check out Millennium Park too. Have an amazing time reconnecting with your friend who knows the city well. You'll love Chicago - such a walkable, entertaining city.

We stayed at The Drake, 140 E Walton Pl, a couple years ago for a sibling get together. It was fine.

Sammyclark, is the Palomar now known as The Royal Sonesta North located on North State street? Do you know? The websites aren’t clear on this but when I Google the Palomar, the Royal Sonesta pops up.
It (Royal Sonesta) was one of the hotels I saw earlier in my search.

Or you could stay in the suburbs and take in the train. I grew up in Arlington Heights. It's $8 in and $8 out. Hotels are much cheaper out in the 'burbs. Plus if you stay out there, you can go to Johnny's Beef on Arlington Heights Rd and get the double Chicago dog.
