I am trying to plan a trip to Chiang Mai in mid September after spending some time in Bangkok. I am thinking of spending about 3 days in Chiang Mai then catching a boat down the Mekong to Luang Parbang in Laos for a few days before returning to Bangkok. This is the wet season and I am wondering if it is worthwhile to make this journey
Chiang Mai is one of our favourite cities but we are usually there in January or February--I'm not sure how travel there would be impacted by the rainy season. I think it would be worthwhile. If you do go, purchase a Nancy Chandler Map of Chiang Mai (she also has one for Bangkok.) You can buy them on Amazon.com.
We've heard great things about Luang Prabang from other travelers but haven't been there yet. Your trip sounds great!!
